Yes, I would guess that the GossipProtocol design would have to be  
reviewed and most likely reworked a bit with a backend that  
implements several IM services. If you have a clear idea on what is  
currently lacking (or if it's only the problem mentioned above) we  
can look into refactoring that layer.

As long as it's carried out between involved parties and discussions  
focused around how to best implement this I'm all for it. However, I  
don't think having more input from the side lines will make this  
progress.
