Yeah, even experienced people can't remember all teh obscure smileys
(well I can't, at least :), so a list of them somewhere fast and obvious
will help. However, as soon as most people discover they can just press
enter to send a message, they aren't going to use the Send button
anymore.
Still, I think Gossip still needs to keep both, for that section of
users that will either never figure the shortcuts out or will keep on
using the buttons anyway.
My Dad, for example, never remembers to hit enter after typing in an
address in a browser window. He either has to have a go button or spends
a moment remembering how to make it go.
