    Yep, it's missing in the version I have installed. (Ross Burton's
    0.14-1 package in debian sid)

I'm using the very same Debian package:

Package: gossip
Maintainer: Ross Burton <ross at debian.org>
Architecture: i386
Version: 0.14-1

And the "Hide Contact List" menu entry is both visible and usable
(tried with LANG=bg_BG.UTF8 and LANG=C).
