[Gossip-dev] Accelerator key inconsistencies

Hi all,
Since there seems to be some confusion about this whole thing, I thought
I'd explain the reasons for the current behavior:
1. Gossip doesn't require a tray icon
2. The contact list represents the app or the "IM feature"
3. Gossip is running pretty much always and therefore easily gets in the
way, both on the desktop and in the tasklist
1 leads to 2 which basically is why there is no close menu item. 3 leads
to the hide/show feature, which is fairly common for tray using apps.
If we make the tray required, or better, come up with another way to
make the contact list less central, having a close menu item for it
might fit in better. I'm not sure, it's a bit odd to me to have a close
menu item that doesn't quit the app when used in the last open window.
And I do agree that the list is a different kind of window and not
comparable to a document (which the chat views are more close to), so I
really don't see the inconsistency there.
Either way, I don't quite see why tweaking a detail like this for a
temporary, albeit long-standing, workaround is important enough to cause
a long thread like this.
/Richard
