The Gossip roster window is pretty special and the only window that can
be compared to it in the above examples you gave (no idea what Audacity
is though) is the tools window (main application window you get when
just starting gimp) in Gimp which doesn't close on Ctrl+w either.
Abiword, Epiphany, Gnumeric windows and the image windows in Gimp can
all be compared to the chat windows of Gossip and they behave the same.
Abiword, Epiphany and Gnumeric also quits the application when the last
window (and last tab in that window in the case of Epiphany) is closed.
The Gossip chat windows works exactly as a browser window in Epiphany in
that it doesn't have a "Close window", only "Close tab and when last tab
is closed, close window".
