I agree with Sjoerd on this one, the reason for showing old messages
is to possibly get a context about what was spoken about last. And it
pretty much only serve a purpose if it's close enough in time to
actually be relevant or it will possibly only be a distraction.
We should also grey it out to show it's an old conversation but a
deadline of a day or so would be pretty good (that way if you talk to
someone the day before and you have to end you will still get a way
to tie back to that conversation the day after). Possibly cause for a
setting though since it somewhat depends on what you use it for.
As a home user I can see Martyns idea of "wow, long time since I
talked to this guy, let's give him some time" useful. But in an
office environment that is pretty irrelevant and conversations are
more context based rather than just staying in touch.
